im not sure what exactly aroused my interest for this topic again.
it must have been a random news pape article.
and random clicks on the net brought me..

a very interesting discussion i found, on the changes to the penal code s377a which was discussed quite sometime ago.
certainly u must have remembered it as much as i did.
the one that addresses sexual contact between homosexuals.
the web link provides 2 sides of the argument by 1st yr law students.
basically. while consensual sex between heterosexual couples of age 16 and above is considered legal, but such consensual behaviour by homosexual couples remain outlawed.
i have always wondered about the concerns of the government over this issue.
was it simply fear of the largely conserved population? the lack of popularity for the govt thereafter? perhaps some extent.
The opponent of homosexual sex Aidil mentioned.

it does sound sense.

well. most of us here are not trained on law. or sociology and workings of society.
i dont and wont dispute the facts here, as there is huge room for exploration of utility and reliability of information presented.
however. it seems that Aidil's background has given a religious slant to his argument. in an effort to sound as racially harmonious as possible, i feel that Aidil's arguments have been partially based on islamic notions. Islamic law bans homoseuality, and perhaps his arguments might reflect the viewpoint of the general group of muslims who might feel that singapore' society shld not accept homosexual behaviour.
hmm but is singapore not multicultural. >< how is it for us to strike the balance?
the viewpoints/beliefs held by indians? chinese? and minority groups that add up to the full picture of Singapore's society.
id do wish to agree that homosexual sex should be allowed.
it certainly seems ridiculous.
to quote the proponent "It is laughable that the consent of a 16 year-old hormonal heterosexual is held to be of greater value than that of a homosexual adult."
certainly, there are hug problems with the law. it fails to consider the maturity of homosexuals against rashful youths.
my knowledge of the overall picture, however, remains relatively limited and myopic, imo.
Perhaps there is real evident concern on the issue of protecting national/public interests over personal ones.
We need to handle tis with some care and caution ;)

i dont mind more people shedding light on this.
im slightly frustrated with asians like myself for the taboos and social restrictions we place on ourselves.
shold we not break free of some of these strong intermolecular bonds in order for our society to progress and mature.
