Iljimae

My thoughts upon finishing the show.
Warning. will contain spoilers ahead.

Iljimae is the korean robin hood.
Had read the synopsis of the ending a few ep before i caght it.
The confusion by netizens over the issue whether iljimae had died.
It got me worried about yet another open ended. ending.
Dreaded such a feel, esp after the recent tae wang sa shin gi which i enjoyed as much

Those worries it seemed, were uncalled for.
No doubt the production crew had to use the scenes from the first ep to be used again for the last part for the lack of shooting time for the show, but doesnt it already answered questions as to whether he was living? For me it did

The producer even wrote on his blog to clarify further.
You may google it if you want, the most obvious being Kong He the scammer monk [who adopted bong soon] ordering 2 pair of shoes at the last ep, which was stated by our director that yongee was living with his master.
Ignore the subs if u watched it online like me, where they translated as "she", making people think he lives with bong soon instead. I guess they dont know.

Overall, iljimae is the usual heroic action packed show. It really has many tearjerking moments [damn that tissuebox!] esp towards the back where swe dol had to die, or when yong's sis died, or when he saw his mom blah..

many parts of the show, to me, felt illogical.
Like how yongee was able to smith out his suit, oh man, how it felt like i was watching ironman the movie!
how he was lucky so many times to be saved by different people, when he was wounded so many times and didnt die. its your typical "never say die" actionhero.

or perhaps when his blood brother ja dol/shi hoo, who hated yongee to the core, and said how he would kill him even if they were brothers and blood-linked by their [fake] father swe dol, but upon knowing he was son of "traitor" lee won ho he immediately changed sides to help him in the final battles. its really strange how he changed his years of hatred in an instant, wished the production had more time to smoothen the transition.

I was sad by the ending. Well audiences really like nice rounded endings.
I wished lee junki would end up with one of the girls, and for a moment i hoped he would be wei xiaobao and grab both for his wives! The 2 girls both had their own fates with him, bleaghx to director who ended him with none of them!

But i must say i still enjoyed it alot.
For its action and suspense that gripped me many times.
The fighting combos, very taekwondo styled overhead kicks, interesting swordplay, not to mention the many 360 xuanzi and the many aesthetic jumps the stuntman put in.
It was a eye feast of martial arts and stunts.

Lee junki's retarded and comical behaviour, though i found him to be more cool looking in other shows even tho i must say he had plenty of opportunities as iljimae to be cool. Rather, i was swooned by Park Shi Hoo, who acted as shi hoo/ja dol.
His usually cold appearance, eyes, made me award him the cool guy of the show. not to mention when he ripped off his clothes to reveal a well toned body. YEOWCH! thats hot.

Ehem. If yongee doesnt want his 2 girls, he should just have given them to me.
I liked the way eun chae acted her pretty caring role as an upperclass lady with no airs. the role itself, aint the role itself so lovable? bong soon, ah she's such a laugh, the comical fun that she always stirs, and yet has a steady heart towards yong.

oh. dont forget the little scenes such as when swe dol married his pretty danee.
these little things that made the show memorable and funny.

watching it was time worth spending.

Henh, what a long commentary!
too bad for those who havent watched, please dont spoil!

PS:Oooooh! I forgot the mention cute little kids!
